Yesterday, author Maureen Johnson had a great idea. She tweeted “I do wish I had a dime for every email I get that says, “Please put a non-girly cover on your book so I can read it. - signed, A Guy” - and so came the idea for a challenge for her 77,000 followers. A challenge that she called Coverflip.

As new platforms emerge, libraries will need to choose the channels that work for their communities. But whatever platforms they choose, they must have some kind of plan that outlines their goals and embrace philosophies that support interactivity with their communities. I think Bizzle summed it up best, “Successful libraries will determine what platforms most effectively reach their target audience and aggressively build sustainable presences there.””

-
Social Media: Libraries Are Posting, but Is Anyone Listening?

PLEASE REBLOG/LIKE THIS POST IF YOU’RE A BOOK BLOG

I get tons and tons of requests to be added to my book blog link list (which I updated hugely today). I try my best to consistently add book blogs as I find them and/or are directed to them, but MAN there are a lot of us! So please, please reblog/like this so I can do my best to both catalogue and follow (I follow with my personal blog, hangonsilvergirl) all the blogs in our little neck of the Tumblr woods. If you don’t have a book blog list on your own Tumblr but would like to direct people, feel free to use mine as a master list of sorts; you’re welcome to save or direct link the pre-made banners posted above (click on the photo and you should be able to copy and paste the link into your browser).

I’m also happy to link to/share book blogs and vlogs outside of Tumblr! Pop a note in my ask box and we can go from there. :)

Thank you!

Children’s librarians not only influence children in their formative years, they open doors for curious minds. Our future depends upon the children’s room. Our power lies in creating learning spaces, influencing lives, and creating community. Our children are our gifts to the world, and the way we care for them says everything about our values as a culture.

You may not realize it, but you have the power to transform the lives of children, the library, and the community. You have the power to open doors, to nurture ideas and imagination. You have the power to change the shape of our world. You are the architects of dreams.
”

- Pam Sandlian Smith, “Architects of Dreams: Anythink’s Pam Sandlian Smith on the Power of Children’s Librarians” (via schoollibraryjournal)

Why Everyone Should Care About Libraries

Why Everyone Should Care About Libraries:
librarymayhem:

“That is why you should care, because for those moments when nobody else cares, we care, and we will get the answer. We serve the public, all of the public. We need you, all of the public, to support us. We cannot serve if the buildings are closed and the staff are laid off.”

Best advocacy write-up I’ve ever read.
